Singer, pianist, anthropologist, Great American Songbook archivist and distinguished-looking gentleman Michael Feinstein is on the road this fall to promote his new album, The Sinatra Project. The new record follows Feinstein’s tradition of albums exploring a particular artist’s catalogue or particular type of music, but don’t write it off as your typical cover album. Feinstein has an unparalleled enthusiasm for music and the talent to match. This is the kind of musician who could play you a song from his vast repertoire and then tell you at great length all about its history over a dry martini. You can expect to hear some rare Sinatra gems thrown in with the standards, including a track “How Long Will It Last” that Ol’ Blue Eyes himself never properly recorded.
Feinstein’s interpretations have always met positive reviews and his live shows are frequently sold out and spectacularly received. His show at The Wharton’s Cobb Great Hall, featuring a 17-piece big band, should be no exception. This is one of only a few Midwestern dates, so we advise interested parties to purchase tickets early. They can be bought online at whartoncenter.com, but we advise taking the scenic route by visiting michaelfeinstein.com first.
